TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR COUNSELLORS, TEACHERS & OTHER SCHOOL PERSONNEL

WHAT IT'S ABOUT

We have been listening to youth voices across the Caribbean and want our work to help in correcting youth concerns such as mental health and youth violence, lack of information on financial literacy, skills development, artistic and creative talents and technical and vocational careers, amongst others,, 

Through this training schools will create a settled & focused learning environment when counsellors & teachers understand and apply The Holland RIASEC Theory of Career Choice with students, thus enabling them to connect students to the right career path & skill areas by using The Career Key. They will be encouraged to review school curricula and the way lessons are delivered.

Students will be excited & inspired with renewed Interest in school subjects leading them to vocational, creative, professional and/or academic pathways

   CONTENT

The lively, interactive session will consist of slide presentations, relevant explanatory videos, practical participatory exercises in break-out groups and opportunities for open discussion and feedback.
Packages of materials will be sent to schools in advance or download links provided to registered participants.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • To improve the capacity of teachers and counsellors in knowing students, being able to direct them on their path and provide empowering information to keep students on track, engaged and interested in  schoolwork
  • Offer professional development in delivering career guidance to students


-To build on and increase the knowledge of staff members of the RIASEC Career Theory of Dr. John Holland


-To develop their knowledge of how to use the Career Key & CHOICES products to help students in planning for their future education, career and life


- For participants to know how to interpret The Career Key test results of both individuals and groups and to be able to utilise this information in planning career information sessions

-To provide empowering information on the online Career Key platform through which to track students’ career options and their path forward.

 

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS TRAINING?

•All schools which need capacity building for staff in understanding The Holland RIASEC Theory of career choice, utilising The Career Key with students, understanding the needs of students and maintaining settled classrooms, including those in need of strategies for students' career information sessions

The date and time of your workshop can be set by you according to availability of school personnel who you wish to participate and to fit in with your usual professional development days

REQUIREMENTS

Each participant requires: A CHOICES Training/Resource Package recommended for teachers, counsellors, form teacher, grade supervisor, school resource centre, library, principal’s office etc.
This package includes 12 items:
- 1 test-taking of The online Career Key Test
- 1 Career Key Test (paper & pen)
- The following CHOICES publications:
• “Get Ready for School Success”
• “CHOICES School Success & Study Planner”
• “Your CXC’s” (either online or printed)
• “The Graduate’s Guide
• “Help Your Child With Career Choice” (for parents)
• “Children’s Career Choices”
• “World of Work” colouring book
• Online access to "Financial Literacy Q & A"

NUMBER OF PERSONS

Minimum of 10 persons per session per school.
TIME REQUIRED: 4 hours. This can be broken down into 2 sessions of 2 hours each.

CERTIFICATE

Participants will receive on completion a Certificate of Participation & Competence in administering The Career Key Test – from careerkey.org and choicescaribbean.

COST OF MATERIALS & PAYMENT DETAILS

The package cost for materials for each participant is US$45. There is no additional cost for the workshop.
We will invoice before the workshop. Payment is due via wire transfer into our NCB account on completion.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON HOW WE PROCEED

The following are very important details and will help you to be clear on what happens next as we finalise details:
1. CONFIRM A SUITABLE DATE & TIME - Please fill out the form below with the relevant information information or send us an email to us at <info@choicescaribbean.com>.

2. We will send you a registration link to be shared with each of your participants.

3. COST OF MATERIALS - The cost for materials for each participant is US$45. CHOICES will supply the relevant numbers of materials required for the activity via regular mail or via download link to your ministry for distribution to participants. Please note that the number of materials requested and sent is an order. This number cannot be changed after being sent and materials cannot be returned due to changes in your numbers.
4. MAILING/DELIVERY OF MATERIALS - CHOICES will arrange for mailing/delivery of the materials required. They will normally be sent by regular or surface mail. The charge for this delivery will be added to your bill and is usually about US$35 per box for up to 20 sets of materials. The cost depends on the number of participants, quantity of materials and the number of boxes to be sent. Late confirmation of numbers will lead to higher delivery cost which also depends on whether we are able to send by regular mail (lowest cost), have to use the quicker air mail or the Fast Track Postal Service. You will be responsible for collecting the box(es) at the post office on their arrival in your country and these become your responsibility and must be kept safely until required on the day of the presentation.
5. PAYMENT - When all details and numbers are clear, we will send an invoice to your ministry. Payment will be due as a wire transfer into our US$ account after we have finished presentation(s).
6. REQUIREMENTS – if your session is virtual, your participants can join the session all together from one location, from their individual devices from wherever they find convenient or a mix of both. For those together in one location, an area large enough to accommodate the proposed group; multi-media projector (screen, speakers, laptop computer, microphone and a sound jack to facilitate sound from laptop through your system, are required. Close to the date/ time we will send required link. If your session is in-person, we expect a room large enough to accommodate the activity to be provided.
7. ADDITIONAL CAREER RESOURCES - We are also offering the opportunity of purchasing additional CHOICES Career Resource Package at the same reduced cost of US$45 each. This cost will be added to your invoice if you agree.
